MartinLogan is an American company specializing in high‑performance loudspeakers, best known for its electrostatic technology that delivers exceptionally clean, detailed, and transparent sound. The company was founded in the early 1980s by Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland—two passionate audio enthusiasts who met in the late 1970s at a high‑end audio store in Lawrence, Kansas. Despite their different backgrounds—Sanders in architecture and advertising, Sutherland in electrical engineering—they shared a common goal: to create an electrostatic loudspeaker with the musical finesse of traditional electrostats but with enough bass and output for everyday use.
After extensive research and development, they introduced the Monolith, a groundbreaking hybrid electrostatic loudspeaker that became a success after its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in 1983. This marked the beginning of MartinLogan’s journey as a highly respected name in high‑end audio.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company grew rapidly, expanding its lineup with center and surround speakers for home theater, as well as iconic electrostatic models such as the SL3 and Aerius. In 1998, the ambitious Statement e2 was launched—a powerful system with reinforced bass that set a new standard for electrostatic performance.
Over the years, MartinLogan has continued to refine and innovate its technologies. The company has introduced advanced materials and engineering solutions—including next‑generation electrostatic panels and the later Folded Motion® tweeters—and expanded its product range to include subwoofers and hybrid loudspeakers designed to reach a wider audience without compromising sound quality.
Since 2005, the company has benefited from external investment that has supported continued research and global expansion. MartinLogan’s philosophy, often summarized as “Truth in Sound,” reflects a relentless pursuit of reproducing music as faithfully and realistically as possible. Thanks to this dedication, MartinLogan remains a highly regarded name among audiophiles seeking the highest level of audio performance.
